February 2017 TRIANGLE Newsletter #4

In this newsletter, the TRIANGLE* project talks about the diverse range of applications for 5G benchmarking received on its recent Open Call funding for 5G developers, makers and operators below.

The newsletter follows with a description of the Test Automation Programme and how it is linked into the testbed for the benefit of those using the testbed on their devices and applications. There is an article on the state of play of 5G and upcoming 5G events.

*The TRIANGLE project is developing a framework to help app developers and device manufacturers in the evolving 5G sector to test and benchmark new mobile applications, devices, and services utilizing existing and extended FIRE testbeds. This framework will evaluate Quality of Experience -
QoE of new mobile applications, services and devices designed to operate in the future 5G mobile broadband networks -and enable certification for new mobile applications and devices.

Diverse mix of applications for first TRIANGLE Open Calls

The TRIANGLE project held its first set of Open Calls towards the end of 2016. These Open Calls or funding round, were aimed at 5G operators, device manufacturers and applications developers wishing to test and benchmark on a readymade 5G testbed as well as those companies and institutions who might wish to extend the testbed with their own set of capabilities. Resulting from this, there were a number of applications from a diverse set of countries across the EU and an interesting mix of sectors. Read more...

A new orchestration solution for the Triangle testbed

The TRIANGLE testbed is a complex solution composed of several different and heterogeneous tools and instruments. In order to manage such complexity and successfully run experiments, an orchestration and management framework (OMF) is needed. 5G Manifesto from the telecommunications industry to the European Commission

The 5G manifesto is essentially an open letter signed by 17 telcos, equipment vendors and satellite operators across Europe and sent to European Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society, Günther Oettinger, in July 2016. This manifesto makes recommendations on how the EU can support 5G deployment, as well as timelines for 5G commercial deployment. Industry in Europe needs to lead the deployment of standardised 5G networks from 2020. In this article, we attempt to bring you an outline of the 5G Manifesto and what it means to 5G device manufacturers and application developers and operators needing to test and benchmark on state-of-the-art infrastructure. Upcoming Events

Mobile World Congress
Several TRIANGLE partners will be present at the annual Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on 27th Feb to 2nd March, Barcelona, Spain. You can also talk to our partners on their stands AT4 Wireless, Keysight, and Quamotion who can give a demo of mobile testing. Also TRIANGLE partner UCL will be present in the 4YFN Connecting Startups area. Please feel free to come to any of the partner booths and ask for information on the TRIANGLE testbed.
